Meditation is the practice where we learn the art of being aware in order to capture every thought, feeling, desire, and bodily sensation without evaluation, expectation, or judgment. The practice of meditation contributes to your overall well-being by giving you a sense of grounding, all the while breaking your tendency to identify with your thoughts, feelings, desires, and bodily sensations. Further, through this practice, you begin to relate to the world and yourself with wisdom and compassion, resulting in increased emotional regulation.
Throughout five sessions, you will learn the basic philosophy of meditation, how to meditate, and some insights into how you can use meditation to take agency over your own journey toward well-being. Sessions will be one hour and 10 minutes, including a time of teaching, guided meditation, as well as a short period of question and response to aid in your meditative journey.
Session One:
Date: TBA
Time: 8:00am – 9:10 am
Topic: Being Aware: The Foundation of Meditation
Description: In the first session, you will learn the basic foundations of meditation, focusing on the subtle yet simultaneously staggering difference between consciousness and the content of consciousness. Then, through a guided set of short meditations, you will begin to develop the tools you need to make the meditation practice your own, all the while learning the benefits that come from this practice.
Session Two
Date: TBA
Time: 8:00 am – 9:10 am
Topic: Awareness of Emotions
Description: In the second session, you will learn the practice of turning your awareness upon your emotions so that you may not only notice the emotions that are presently being experienced and where they exist in your body, but also how to feel your emotions through the lens of curiosity and compassion. Becoming mindful of your emotions will enable you to begin developing the ability to hold compassionate space for your own heart.
Session Three:
Date: TBA
Time: 8:00 am – 9:10 am
Topic: Awareness of Thoughts
Description: In the third session, you will learn how to turn your awareness to your thoughts so that you may witness your thoughts' impermanence and the particular patterns of thinking that arise for you. You will be invited to experience the liberating reality that you are not identical to your thoughts.
Session Four:
Date: TBA
Time: 8:00 am – 9:10 am
Topic: Awareness of the Body
Description: In the fourth session, you will learn the practice of turning your awareness upon your body with curiosity and compassion, so that you may learn how to build a skillful relationship with your body.
Session Five:
Date: TBA
Time: 8:00am – 9:10 am
Topic: Awareness of Desire
Description: In the fifth session, we will learn the nuanced and intricate practice of becoming aware of our desires and cravings. We will learn about our baseline and fundamental desire for well-being and the four primary shades of desire: approval, power, control, and comfort. This session can be very empowering as you will notice that it is not the fulfillment of your desire that brings inner peace but rather the ability to hold unfulfilled desire with compassion and care.
